Fair enough. I posted a lot of stuff, partly to display the depth and breadth of the songs and that there remained quality stuff into the 90s. Is it all great? Perhaps not, but most of it is at least good, imo.

Cheers,
Geoff

Ray’s solo albums are quite good too… I like “Other People’s Lives” and “Workingman’s Cafe”…

I love most of the Kinks tunes, but the two that totally grab me are Sleepwalker (the song) for Dave's guitar work, especially the outro solo, and Celluloid Heroes for Ray's thought-provoking and poetic lyrics.

I like those too. Some of Dave’s stuff gets a little out there, but Bug ain’t bad.

The first time I saw the Kinks, I was very excited. However anew bands debut put me in a foul mood. REO Speedwagon. They stunk the place up. Then after their performance, I hear there is another act. A guy walks out in a Plaid long sleeve shirt, jeans and boots. I roll my eyes and then I see one of the best live performances of my life. Rory Gallagher. What a performance. And I am thinking wow too bad for the Kinks. Ray comes out, clapping his hands and says, How bout that Rory Gallagher, give him a big hand. And then the Kinks just blew the doors out & the roof off, what a great live band. The more beer they had, the better the show got. Muswell is my favorite album of theirs. And i love Victoria and Sunny afternoon.

The Kinks are tops in my book. Very few bands are in their league. Their music is timeless in my opinion. The Kinks sound fresher today to me than U2, REM, Pearl Jam, and many other successful bands. You almost never hear them on the radio and that's a shame. Great songs, great band. Thanks for the thread.

Two kind of obscure ones... (I think)

Who else could write lyrics like this???

ANIMAL

On reflection, it was not all wine on the wall
It was not all cuts and bruises
Or the pulling out of hair
And the bloodying of nose
And the tearing off of clothes, although

It was really animal, truly animal
There were times when there was absolute compassion in the air
Though it was really animal, truly animal

It could not compare to times we cared
And were in control and less emotional

While the intellect controls the spiritual
The animal respects what's natural
Ying and yang control man's actions
And both extremes are a natural reaction

It was really animal, truly animal,
Well there were times when there was absolute compassion in the air

On reflection it was not all crash and bang
Broken bottles and abuse
Sometimes there was sex on the sands
Holding onto caring hands
But there were vampire fangs
As the angels sang
It was ying and yang, oh yeah

It was truly natural, though it was really animal
In a sense it fell into a truly natural romance

Oh yeah,
It was really animal, truly animal
There were times when there was absolute compassion in the air

True love, true love, true love is really animal

Ok. Gonna revive this with the most unKinks like song in their entire catalogue.

A few more from the early to mid 70s when they supposedly sucked. None of these tunes suck, imo.
