    This is the correct answer!

Everything and everyone you need is right here!

*I know this is petty, buy when TGP changed their look/ graphics on website, a few years back, it seemed 'cold' and they just lost me after a while- I'm still registered/signed-in, but lost interest.

    TDPRI is just 'homey-er' ...

You can't expect potential supporting members to share their money with some faceless, unresponsive forum.

I understand that this is a guitar forum and in a way it makes sense to ban the discussion of anything else, but I am also part of a couple non-guitar boards... even Twitter as an an example... with very light moderation that allow pretty much any topic to be discussed, and those places are thriving in comparison to a place like this, which is probably closer to dying out along with its users. Just sayin'. People want to be able speak freely; this is evident throughout history. The more restrictive an institution is, the more readily people will abandon it, given the choice.

"Say what you need to say without offending anyone or disrupting the forum." This is very clearly not the policy of TDPRI or TGP.

People welcome the freedom from controversial subjects sometimes.

    Fortunately, that doesn't happen here...

I got banned there once so I decided to ban THEM. I read on a topic there sometimes when a search about something pulls them up. Otherwise, I have no use for TGP.

As I said in a previous post, the way to do this is with a PM.

I’ve never been banned there. I need to log in and see what I can do.

One thought that occurs is - if there are other fora available to discuss whatever floats someone’s boat, then why should this particular forum have to conform to any other fora’s approach?
If a person feels so strongly about that, isn’t that person free to start their own forum and make their own rules?
    Make your own “freedom”?
I like some political/philosophy/whatever free zone - I can get plenty of all that other stuff elsewhere, 24/7, don’t feel like it’s missing here. My 2 cents.
Also, IMO, has nothing to do with age groups, except for people who believe those categories are somehow useful.

I've seen people get banned from guitar forums for off-topic subjects, personal flame wars and trolling but TGP is the only one I know of that's still active where posting a wrongthink opinion about guitars will get you unceremoniously banned.

Makes me want to puke to know that this site and TGP are owned by the same people.

Where you been Smoke? They have Macebook, Tweeter (not porn), Instagrits etc where many of the topics you mentioned are discussed. Be prepared however to be banned or suspended on those sites if the censors disagree with your viewpoints. I've heard there are a few fairly new discussion forums politically oriented that allow anything except blatant hate speech. Good luck changing minds!

You miss the point. Post what you want. I don’t take offense to posts and I don’t report them. PM someone if you want to discuss something controversial that might get a thread closed. None of us want that.

I belonged to tgp long before I joined tdpri. I still pop in there from time to time. I visit tdpri ten times more than tgp and enjoy it a whole lot more. I bailed on harmony central years ago

Heh, pretty sure those dudes are huge Clapton fans (based on his on-stage rant in ‘76). I’ll pass on that .
