Are you sure we can get away with talking about good music here? Maybe someone should say a few words about Brad Paisley to appease the masses.

Don't know if this is it... I searched the net and found BJ Thomas wrote a song called "Garner State Park". Recorded it in 1965.

During the first video, they show a record called "Fort Worth Teen Scene." It's a compilation of recordings by local bands during the 60s. A song that I wrote and recorded in 1966 is on that record and also on another compilation called "Shutdown 66." My song is even available as a mp3 download on Amazon. Someone even did a cover version of it and put it up on Youtube. I was 16 when we recorded it. That was the first song I wrote and I had been playing guitar less than a year. It makes my skin crawl to hear it, but obviously someone must find it to be so bad it's good or something. Now I'm just waiting for that huge royalty check that I'm sure is coming any day now. Bugs Henderson was in "Mouse and The Traps." You can see a couple of shots of him in that video. Of course, The Chessmen (with Jimmie Vaughan) was the ruling band around the Dallas area.

    ...Red Crayola...Hurricane Fighter Plane:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qteFf8uQ_MQ&feature=related

Well I have in my pocket
    A hurricane fighter plane
And it takes me where I want to go
It doesn't matter if it rains
    It's my hurricane fighter plane
    And I know
Takes me where I want to go
    To the sky up above
    To the sky up above
    To the ground below
There is one thing my baby
That I know I can do for YOU
And it's the only thing I know how to do
    It's my hurricane fighter plane
    Takes me to the sky
    All the time
    All the time
    All the time
My my my hurricane fighter plane
My my my hurricane - fighter - plane
    My my my
    Come fly with me
    Anytime or anywhere
When you fly with me in my aeroplane
    You won't care
    It'll take us over mountains
And down in valleys so deep
    When the ride is over
    You can go to sleep
    You can go to sleep
    Go to sleep
    My my my my
    My my my my
On the shelf I have six buckets
    And they're all for you
Full of little things that we can do
You'll be amused by my hurricane fighter plane
And after we ride through the sky
    It won't be the same
    It'll never be the same
My my my hurricane fighter plane
    My my my my
    My my my my
    When the ride is over
    You can go to sleep
    When the ride is over
    My my my my
    My my my my
    Hurricane
    Come fly with me
    Anytime or anywhere
When you fly with me in my aeroplane
    You won't care
    You can go to sleep
    My my my my
    You can go to sleep

Don't forget Z-Rocks. "The Teacher's A Punk" got a bit of airplay. And Guy Schwartz had a good solo album, too.

Joe King Carasco did a crazy fun show back in the early '80s. Even the T-Birds and Eric Johnson could be seen in the smallest clubs back then. Bugs Henderson. I wouldn't call TBirds, EJ or Bugs garage bands per se, but you could see them for $5. Good times.

Great thread! This is taking me back to the my mis-spent days at University and the nightly excursions my friends and I used to take into 60s garageland.

    Garner State Park 1965

Rare video slide show of one of the first outdoor rock concerts held in Texas. Show was held on July 4, 1965 at the Cold Springs Ranch adjacent to the famous Garner State Park in the hill country of Texas.

The background audio is from a June 16, 1965 recording of the Buddy McGregor show on KNUZ with the original on-air promo of the event, followed by B.J. Thomas and the Triumphs singing "Garner State Park", a regional hit song at the time.
