I'm gassing for it. i have been for a while. I don't really need it, but I want it. Most reviews I read or watch include some statement like "if i could only have one pedal" or "never leaving my board" . Thus far I've kept the urge at bay by focusing on the price tag or high current draw necessitating me having to rework my whole board, but those reasons are losing the fight. Can anyone tell me something they don't like about their Strymon Flint?

My first wife ran off with a Strymon Flint. Don't trust them.

Weird. A Strymon Flint framed me for the murder of my wife.

Well, you certainly pay the Strymon Tax. Those things are spendy.

I dunno man...if you rearrange the letters, you get

    Ms. Linty Front

That's enough to keep me away.

It's expensive. I like the 70's and 80's reverbs, while the 60's is okay at low settings. In my opinion, the trems all sound a bit digital. I prefer amp trem pretty much every time.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great pedal. But what it does very well can be had for less.

But if you want one, just find a used one. If you don't dig it, sell it off for the same price.

I got on the Strymon caboose a few years ago and ended up with the BlueSky and the ElCapistan. No mean things to say about either of them. They're great. But, frankly, lately, with the Princeton Reverb, my Tele and my fingers, I find I don't have much use for them anymore. They sound clean, but it's like adding a false step, a wall, a barrier, between my guitar and my amp. When I use them, I feel less connected.

But I love the build, the look, the way they sound. I just started to grow out of them.

its a great pedal. and you won't find a used one for much less than the price new from S-water. I watched all the regular suspects for about a year & then broke down and got one. remember, it also has a really good tremolo.

on the other hand.... the ElCapistan does a NICE spring reverb as one of its functions. unfortunately, that function goes away when you hit the off switch. but, you can get an aux switch that toggles between two settings. so, spring reverb on one setting and an echoplex function on another. I've been thinking of doing that set up for the "away team" board to keep a smaller package. but truth is, I like them both. I leave the Flint on because there is no onboard reverb on my favorite amp, and I have 2 Echo settings. man, I sound just like Eric Johnson! woo hoo! (in my mind ha ha)

Something negative about the Strymon Flint...I can't afford one...and when I finally am able to, I'm not sure I'll be able to justify it...even used.

Some people swear by them though...heavy hitters. Julian Lage had one among only a small handful of pedals he uses.

I think there's one for sale right now in the classifieds.

A big negative for me - people keep asking me how I like it. Gets old.

Ummm...it costs as much as a gig-worthy used amp or guitar? It's a $300 effects pedal. It costs almost as much as my whole pedalboard. That's all I got. But it's kind of a big deal!

... its a really good pedal. how much money have you thrown away on chasing the sound? I can't tell you how much for me (I don't know) but its a lot. I also can't tell you how many pedals I've tried in 50 years of playing but its a lot. my current board (for the last 2 years) has a tuner, 2 Strymon pedals, and the Archer. I put another on once in a while but they never stay

the big question is do you need a reverb?

if so, buy it nice, or buy it twice.... or in some cases 3,4,5 times... guilty as charged. my amps are rockin' good enough without pedals (also a long chase over the decades to find my sound). but I keep foolin' around

it's sort of a waste of money to use a reverb that nice through a clippy amp at a gig.

in the studio, there are top quality plugins that sound just as nice for way less money.

i think the strymon stuff sounds great, but it's often a little impractical, or in a "worst of both worlds" zone.

Old Strymon Flint eh? He certainly gave Sherlock Holmes a run for his money.

If you mean that nifty reverb/trem pedal, I'd love one, but funds for such things are rather low these days and the Flint is rather expensive.

It was kind of "meh" to me. Got it used for a good price and sold it. Now, the Big Sky was stunning (that Cloud algorithm)... Sold it too, though, as I just couldn't afford to keep it.
