Well- GAS strikes again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But- I have never held one let alone played one!!! I usually have no interest in celebrity model guitars, even though I think Bob Weir kicks ass (or these days... at least occasionally still can)...

Unfortunately, these guitars have seemingly gone to a price point where it would be the most expensive guitar I've ever bought- should I find one, although a few trickle in to Ebay here and there.

So- I'd love to hear people's opinions on these guitars- also if anyone can articulate the difference between the earlier Super 70 pickups and later Super 80's, etc, neck profile,etc.......

Thanks in advance!

If it's Bob Weir fandom that's driving your GAS I'm surprised you wouldn't look into either a Gibson 335 or 345. That's where Weir sounded best IMO.

If those late '70s Live tapes are anything to go by those Ibanez guitars have a very thin sound. My only experience with an Ibanez (thinline Tele 'lawsuit') was'nt very good unfortunately. I'm sure Bob Weir's own model was top notch but I'd worry about spending lots on a not very good guitar.

I have seen 2681s (or 'Bob Weirs') going for quite cheap in pawn shops now and then. They're that kind of guitar. If you really want one, I'm sure you'll find one cheap if you wait long enough.

There was one of those hanging in a local shop here for YEARS. I played it several times, very fat and chunky sounding, very LP-ish, but with more mid range growl, and better sustain than any of the Paul's I've owned.

The owner wanted $950 for it. I thought that was steep, for an Ibanez, I just wouldn't go that much. Last time I saw it there, more than a year ago, he told me if I wanted it he'd take $700. I thought about it, went back to play it again, and it was gone. He got his $950. I'm still not sure it's worth that to me, but it was a very nice axe.

It's not Weir fandom on this one, if I was in that position I'd like a cocobolo top Modulus Blacknife

There's this one with the scratched out serial number that sold for $1,519.99
(link removed)
I've seen them go for a hell of a lot more. Some people find these quite desirable guitars. YMMV
