The most tonally versatile 'Tron-style pickup out there...the "Off Kiltertron" by Alameda Guitars. I've got a set in a Gretsch of mine, and love 'em...

Filtertrons are the best. Just the old run of the mill common ones.
To my ear you need no boutique "improved" version

It gets a little dicey though, because for a few years Gretsch was putting "gretschbuckers" in their cheaper electromatic guitars, they look a bit like filtertrons but are not that, rather just relatively generic sounding humbuckers
I put a set of standard HS Filtertrons in my Gretsch Electromatic and it's working out well.

I could never really understand this. They could've gone with low output humbuckers under the covers and Gretsch folks would've seen it as a nice alternative but instead they went with basically the Chevy Citation of humbuckers. I bought a set impulsively for a Cab inspired build and they were okay for higher gain stuff but useless for anything else. They really really looked good in the build though 🤣

That's a rare configuration. I can only imagine it sounds incredible. Have you ever considered throwing another tron in the neck?
I have, but there's a bit of a story: my wife bought me the silver pickguard as an anniversary gift and I had to find a place to use it. My other T-styles have 5 hole guards and I didn't want to drill into them, so I put this guitar together from some spare parts I had. I can't put a humbucker in the neck because then I can't use the pickguard. But that's OK, it turned out great!

Too cool. Having one hum-canceling pickup and one non hum-cancelling pickup in the same guitar always drives me nuts! I am sure the Fralin sounds awesome.

To clarify, so your neck and bridge trons can be switched to being out of phase with each other, correct?

Do you use that setting often and if so, in any particular situations?
Yes, I engage it in the middle position, for songs like My Girl, Third Rate Romance, and the odd BB King or Peter Green lick.
It’s an admittedly odd, quirky tone.

With the 500k pots the Fralin neck pickup sounds bright and stratty, which is great because I don't like Tele neck pickups as a rule.
