I didn’t get to see them in their original run, but saw them in the ‘90s after they put out their reunion record, and a couple times in recent years with the current lineup (with Jimmy Rip replacing Richard Lloyd). They are as good now as you could possibly want them to be. Definitely go see them if you get the chance.
Tom Verlaine's solo on Marquee Moon still lures the cobra out of the basket...every time.
I like this record even if I think every song is two minutes too long. I love Richard Lloyd's work with Matthew Sweet and Veraline's playing is interesting, too.
That is a hell of a guitar player's guitar album. It's straight-up beautiful playing throughout.
i've tried and tried and i just can't get happy with Television...must be a character fault on my part. everybody else loves them. i'm the same way with ZZ Top.
Tom Verlaine's voice can be an obstacle to enjoying this music. I overcame that obstacle in 1977, but I have to remember to keep that in mind when recommending the album to someone who has somehow managed to never hear it before.
Tom Verlaine's solo on 'Marquee Moon' is just epic. That entire album is one of my all time favorites, and is one of the few albums I consistently listen to in its entirety on a regular basis.
