You played some great stuff, James! You have really good taste in music, my friend :D

And the Cialis commercial comment was hilarious because that's exactly where my mind went

Yeah, you pretty much played an encyclopedia of good stuff there, James. What's not to like about that? (nice new amp too!)

Boy I wish I could share the recipe. I actually mixed it in my spray gun and shot test pieces til it looked good. I really didn't expect the red hue at all, there is no red in the mix. It was roughly 12 drops of medium brown transtint and 3-4 drops of dark brown transtint. I guess the reds are coming from that mixture over the white pine. You'll notice how brown it looks in some photos and how red it looks under different lights. Crazy. Anyway sorry that's not more helpful.

Thanks. I used to be able to play windy and warm also, dunno what happened. I'm playing through a hand built clone of a Matchless Lightning. Absolutely love this amp but it's the loudest 15 watt amp I've ever heard. To really shine it needs to be stuck in an amp room far far away and mic'd. It's so loud you can't turn it up on stage where it really sings. I literally run the master as low as possible without it being off and the sound guys still complain. When you can turn it up to 3ish it comes alive and does wonderful things. By far the most right hand sensitive amp I've ever played, incredible dynamics.

Hmmm. I am totally head over heals for my LP and have zero forearm issues with it. In fact I think the carve top is what makes it so comfy on the forearm. I did make my LP thinner than standard though so that probably helps. I find the tele with the carved top is a really good setup. The butt of an LP is just massive, very awkward to play sitting down and the waist is really narrow. To me the size of the tele is better and it's lighter just because it's smaller. Still tho you won't ever pry that LP out of my hands, I've logged so many hours on it that I can predict everything that comes out of it. This guitar is identical neck shape scale length nut width to my LP in the hopes that switching between the two would be seamless. This guitar hangs more evenly than my LP so that's nice. You can see in the picture on the very first post how much smaller the telepaul is compared to the LP. I really like it, but I really really like my LP. Sorry to waffle on the answer.

How come you can't multi quote from your phone?

Anyway, the bridge tone in this guitar is just epic, does twangy to gnarly mean overdriven stuff effortlessly. You knocked that pup out of the park. I didn't use any overdrive in that vid, but look out when you hit that pup with some gain, it gets crazy good. I looked at the neck before I put it back in, you wrote 5.7k on it which seems ideal. I'm a heavy handed player so that's probably the issue more than anything else.

So I'm in Tahoe this weekend playing for 3 days straight. This is the only guitar I brought hoping it would accelerate the learning curve of a new guitar. Just today I found a beautiful lead tone on the neck pup, very warm and rich and not muddy. It's brilliant during those quieter moments of songs when just simple warm lead lines fit in. But I haven't tried anything else on the neck yet, still several sets left so who knows. Gotta give that RC pup a whirl someday. It sounded really promising to me in your demo. I want warm rich cleans out of a neck but my heavy lead weight right hand can't get em I guess.

Yes the matchless is really dreamy to me, took me several weeks to get used to it and it will absolutely punish you when you make mistakes, but once I got it all figured out it's fantastic. Much better than the Vox AC15 to me.

    Hey James,
Excellent find! I thought you had the higher resistance pup in there. It sounded thicker than I remembered. Must have been the distance from the camera mic. I'd love to hear a high quality recording of the rig once you have the setup exactly where you want it. Go James!

I think I'll send this thing down to you so you can evaluate it for us. I don't have a way to get a high quality recording, at least not that comes to mind.

    Hey James,
Drop $75 or so for a Snowball or some other decent USB mic, plug into the iPhone or iPad and have at it! Great sound quality at a reasonable price. And..... If you want to send that guitar over, I'd be happy to evaluate it for a few years.... um days, yeah, that's it, days. :)

Good save with that neck, you have a great eye for colour there, it must be said. ;)

BTW, did the CA work over the Black Palm? You never said. :)

Sweet guitar, and I loved the Billy Squier nod. Lonely is the Night brought back some memories of my senior year in high school.
