John Scofield comes to mind as well. Granted, there are plenty of grumpy "1950s jazz police" types on the jazz guitar forum who will insist anything other than an ES-175 through a Polytone with the tone knob rolled ALL the way off is "fusion" (giant eye roll).

I used to think that only the biggest, widest, archtop would do. But there’s more than one kind of jazz and each guitarist has his own preferences. I like my Telecaster with the pickups in series to accompany jazz vocals. I like the Stratocaster middle pickup for jazz/blues. And I like the blended pickup sound of my Annie for most anything. A guitar is a tool a musician used to create sound. There are many good choices to be made.
