Yes, looking at it again you're absolutely right. I was distracted by the pickguard, but both the body shape and pickguard are wrong.

The upper bout is weird too… more circular than a Fender. I would stay away from that. The only US toploader models AFAIK were the early-mid 80s Teles, which didn’t look like this?

The bridge looks very much the original on my '96 MIM, as does the black headstock log. The 12th markers are also correctly spaced for a 'real' neck. Something that's usually a dead give away is too wide a spacing. Serial number definitely dubious. All in all, I'd steer clear, for that sort of money you could by something with no doubts about it being the real deal.

my MIM '96 'black label' had exactly that type of bridge.
