Doesn't work, don't know if I should get new knobs or a new loaded control plate or body... More suggestions please?

Are you talking about the tone knob?
Standard teles don't have separate vol. pots for each pup.
So what is changing when Mr. Loosey Knob moves?
No need to spend a bunch of £ ...if needed, you can just swap that one pot.
But I suspect you are either not properly tightening the set screw that holds the knob on the shaft, or you simply need to replace the knob.

take the knob to a good hardware store--the kind with old guys who know hardware--and find a new set screw. Mine is a straight slot screw--I would guess the screw is too small for anything else. BTW, when you tighten the set screw are you sure the screw is actually turning. If you use too big a screwdriver you may not be engaging the slot. It takes a very small screwdriver.

Double check the set screw. Otherwise, this is guaranteed to work.

When the knob is off can you turn the pot shaft? Should be able to, and it should stop at both ends of the turn. If it does, you don't need a new pot.

I assume the pot has a solid shaft. If the shaft turns and looks to be in good shape, then you need a new knob and set screw. Make sure you get the right size for your
American Standard.

Does the setscrew turn properly?

Sometimes the solution they use to relic metal parts can mess up the screw, or the threads it's supposed to turn in.

Another question:

Are you using imperial sized knobs on imperial pot shafts (1/4" = .250") shafts, or metric sized knobs on metric shafts (6mm = .236")?

Trying to put an imperial/USA knob on a metric shaft might be the cause of your problem.

Knobs work great, as for the relicing thinking just scraping a tiny bit of lacquer off with some sandpaper then smoothing it up?

Last time my knob fell off, I just ordered a new one.

Sorry... it had to be done. Now it's out of my system. I'm fine... thanks... carry on.

Use the guitar to smash the most expensive thing within reach. That should settle you down some.

The knob obviously wishes to go to 11 then jumps from the guitar in frustration when it can't. Suicidal knob.

About 5 years ago "THIS " kept falling off my working 52 RI on gigs, so I bought about 3 or 4 more, but still haven't put one on !

My simpleton logic is if it ain't on it can't fall off !

I have changed both pots and pup switch on this axe, wore em out I suppose, but the KNOBS and set screws are still good !

you either have a faulty knob, knob attachment, or a bad pot.... it shouldn't be too difficult to isolate which...
