Noticed a lot of Player Telecasters but not a lot of Vinteras from the mid Atlantic regions up through New England. Been traveling a bit this year and I stop in music stores up the coast and find that Players outnumber Vintera by a wide margin. In fact Ive only seen one Vintera near Boston but nothing down here in Virginia. Call me old fashioned but Id really like to try the Vintage modified and compare to the player. I know the specs are different neck shape, diameter etc... but, there's nothing like feeling the guitar you want to purchase. It seems Fender is pushing the Player and Player plus models right now.

Maybe see if Guitar Center will get one shipped in from another store. They’ll likely search for one for you and transfer to your local store for you to try.

It’s not that Fender’s pushing the Player, they probably produce more due to higher demand for the lower price point. The Vinteras have been hot since they were introduced and sell out quickly.

I understand the try before you buy idea but but right now inventories are low and demand is high. If you can find one you could buy it and if not happy with it sell it quickly without much if any loss of money.

    Good luck, enjoy the search.;)

I was just looking online for a Vintera 50's strat and the date for Long and McQuade's is March 2022. They have very little of the vintera line in stock at all.

Having one shipped to my local GC is a good idea. The question is if they want a purchase to do that but it doesn't hurt to ask.

I think it might be partly a supply thing, over here in the UK we were really low on player stock for a long time and it took ages for places to get them in stock after the first initial batches.... but now it seems over the last few months everywhere has got their orders for them that they've probably been waiting for for ages.

I was trying to find a mate of mine a tidepool strat for ages and nowhere had one.... now they are everywhere.

It's because there's 16 million new guitar players in the last 18 months and guitar manufacturers are struggling to keep up with demand across the board. Short answer: People have been buying guitars in record numbers over the past year and a half. I've noticed Fender seems to have focused their production to their core lines across the board - Player and American Pro2 seem to be the most available. They just launched the Player Plus line so those have shown up in local stores. But good luck finding the more niche lines like the Vintera modified or American Original. It's become near impossible to comparison shop different lines or models because they simply are not available (And when they do show up in stores they sell almost immediately). Even if you order one in, most dealers will tell you it's an 8 to 12 months wait.

I watch the YouTube videos from the guys at Casino Guitars regularly and they say they can't keep Martin guitars on the wall at all. They've been slow to arrive (due to demand vs production capacity) and when they finally get some in they're gone within days.

I doubt Fender is “pushing” any one line over another. They produce in batches largely based on retailer orders. And with production delays all over the world during the entire pandemic, and demand for instruments at an all-time high, it’s likely they aren’t able to churn anything out fast enough. You are also comparing a high production, run-of-the-mill series (Player) to a more niche series that probably has much lower production. A lack of Vinteras on shelves, if it’s actually true, likely just results from a combination of lower production numbers vs. Players, and a longer time since the last batches were produced.

You would probably have to buy the guitar to get them to ship it to your local GC.

But if you don't like it, you have 30 days to return it. Do it!

Yes you are correct I suppose I should have restated that portion of the post. I was just sipping coffee and that was the first thing that came to mind. But one thing for sure the Players outnumber the Vintera by a lot. It is this supply thing for sure. They may just tool up the factories to get out what they can when they can.

If they've only got X amount of production capacity and they're swamped with demand they are going to focus that production on the lines that sell in the highest volumes.

Road worn Vinteras have been discontinued. Maybe the rest didn’t sell well either? Always pushing the newest model.
