I agree about the twang on 'This Charming Man'. Much Tele goodness on that record.

He's a marvellous player. I'm a big fan of rhythm guitar, and he's one of the best rhythm players there's ever been. Great arrangements too. Guitar players know how special he is, but because he's very rarely flashy in an obvious way his talents are maybe not as greatly recognised among non-musicians.

Marr, Bunnymen, Teardrop Explodes and others - there was a raft of new wave stuff in the 80s UK, all using Teles. They called it Jangly.

Yeah, Jangly and Twangy are blood brothers.

Here's one that also pushes right up to the edge of Twang:

I believe it was the Ric 330 on that track, at least the riff. The fills near the end sound like they could be a Tele though.

With right combo of delay, trem, and some reverb, I can get pretty close to that tone with my Strat. But I agree that was surely recorded with a Rickenbacher.

Johnny Marr is one of my favorite guitarists, love his tone and textures.

And in the 90's you had dreampop, shoegaze, brit pop and alt-rock bands like The Ocean Blue, The Sundays, Lush, Slowdive, Radiohead, and Blur using Teles too.

Don't forget the host of current UK indie/alt-rock bands using Teles: Arctic Monkeys, Bloc Party, The Palma Violets, We Were Promised Jetpacks, etc..

Teles always seem in fashion with Rock/Indie/Punk bands here. I see way more Teles than Strats on TV.

Did you see Strictly Come Dancing tonight (I happened to be in the room when it was on:oops:)? McBusted were on and they all played Teles. Even the bass player.

Read your history books: Muddy Waters

That wailing bottleneck blues is where Leo's firstborn broke free of its twang.

Oh no, I missed it? Well, damn..

But it's good to know they at least have good taste in guitars.

+1 Andy Summers (I love Twang but Summers is as far from twang as you can get on a tele...)

To the guy who wrote "me"; good one

I certainly don't twang, but add the Screaming Blue Messiahs and the Hives to the list
