I’ve had one for so long that I can’t even remember when I installed it; it’s been decades. Like a notorious infommercial used to say “set it and forget it”; it’s been perfect. On the other hand I haven’t needed to mess with the stock style on my ‘51 Custom Shop Nocaster, my ‘51 RI P Bass or my ‘60’s Classic Tele.

Best tele upgrade out there, in my opinion...they should be standard issue on teles.

First and only thing I had to do on my AV52 was install an Electro Socket. Yes, you can use the original jack plug. And yes you can use angled connecters.

Should be mentioned here that most of the 'cheaper' ones available on sites like eBay and Amazon are European sized and will need a metric jack...but there are US or 'standard' sized ones available, you just have to look for them. (Both US and Mexican made teles have standard size, Japan, China, Korea, Indonesia made are metric)

I think I'm sold! My only hesitation is I've standardized on all Nickel hardware, and I don't see a Nickel option.

There actually is a nickel one (I have one) can't remember where I got it, though. You just have to do a proper search (eBay)

They're really nice, but I like the right angle jacks so I put the Les Paul type on all my Teles. The original comes out the first day.

StewMac has a nickel version with standard sizing...

I use the Rutters Shallow Twisted cup with short Switchcraft jacks. That combination allows me to use ANY cable without issue.
They are far more expensive than an electro socket, but you get what you pay for.

I use a dowel and a small hobby hammer and "tap" them in.
You should try and hand fit them first, it should go in about halfway by hand.

Between using the nickel-plated Rutters Cup (similar to but shallower than the Electrosocket), adjusting the threaded jack to protrude just enough, and filing a very small flat-spot on the plastic housing of the right-angle plug, I can use my favorite right-angle Asterope Pro Stage cable and everything's just-right. Fairly quasi-vintage looks, wood-screwed security and reliability, low-profile right-angle plug, very clear toned super low capacitance cable. A real Win-Win-Win-WIN all-around.

Short answer- usually, yes.

I can't know if you might ever run into parts with different threading. Worst case scenario, you might not be able to- but the good news is, the individual parts are generally pretty inexpensive if you need them. That does mean desoldering and new soldering (if the electronics are already wired to an existing jack), though, if that's a concern behind your question.

I know he makes them in Nickle and Chrome, maybe he just doesn't have Nickle at the moment? I have bought Rutters Cups from this seller before when Marc was out of stock. Marc builds in batches and sometimes there is a bit of lag between batches.

I also see that his Twisted Shallow Jack Cup is only listed in Chrome on the Rutters Guitars site.

If you do a custom order and communicate with him, he'll very probably agree to make one and have it nickel-plated for you; just be advised that you may have a lengthy wait in store for you, and Marc is a better craftsman than he is a communicator- but he will get whatever he's agreed to do, eventually done and sent to you; it just might take a while. He has to make the part, then send it to his plater when he has enough various parts that need the same plating, and then wait for it to come back to him, etc.

I had him make me a custom Tele bridge-plate, and it was worth the wait- I got exactly what I wanted and needed.

Here is a seller on eBay that has a supply of Rutters Shallow Twisted cups in Nickel.
Marc has done them in Nickel, not sure if he just hasn't done any lately or if he has discontinued them.

Early 50s look but with a shallower profile so you can use a right angle plug. The spiral-cut knurling allows the cup to be twisted into place and stay there. Nickel-plated steel.

"Standard size" should actually be called vintage correct, if at all. how they built them, way back then.
it costs extra if you want to have your way and isn't metric.

Me thinks that if one has issues with the screws on an electro socket cup, then one might have other more serious problems that need some attention!

I must be lucky or something because I've never had a jack socket give me problems on any Tele, Fender or Squier. Been playing them for quite a few years and, apart from maybe the odd tighten up, never given the sockets any attention.

I'm with @Arfage. Much prefer the Les Paul style jack. That's what I put on my avatar Tele.
