Hi all.
My old and trusty mint/seafoam partscaster needs a new pickguard. Standard pu and control configuration.
I'm not sure if it's more green (mint) than green with blue (seafoam), but it's in the same area...

I need input, because uptil now it's been sporting a mother of ugly guard which is (of age and sunlight) turning an even more ugly yellowish tone.
I will not provide pictures. Oh, and tortoise is out of the question.

Black?
Cream?
Mint?
Mirror? (I actually have one somewhere...)
Red?
Blue?
Mother of slightly darker ugly?
Mother of ugly, but new and...eh...fresh?
No guard at all?

Suggestions, good people?

And yes, I know the difference in tone due to darker/lighter material. I just changed the pickup switch knob from black to white to enhance a bit more highs, especially from the neck pu.

I agree with fenderchamp, fire engine red tortoise shell looks best on seafoam. That’s the exact combo I was gonna go with for my partscaster until I found a sunburst body I liked better.

If you continue to insist on being wrong and refuse to put a tortoiseshell pickguard on it, then I would suggest an aged mother-of-pearl (or aged mother-of-toilet-seat, whichever you’d prefer).

No, it doesn't.
Did anyone read the first post? Geeeeeeeeez

Listen guy, I’m not the one who started a thread asking for opinions, that was YOU. At the end of the day, I couldn’t care less what color pickguard you use. But numerous comments and the most liked comment in the thread (fenderchamp’s) show the overwhelming opinion. But don’t ask for people’s opinion and then keep barking “you’re wrong” if you don’t like the overwhelming opinion.

Ah...leave it as is, you mean?
Yes, but since I haven’t seen a pic I can’t imagine why it (aged mother-of-pearl) would look bad, unless it’s dirty (which can be cleaned) or uneven in the aging—yellowed in spots or worse on one edge or the other.

If possible, at least post a pic of what color the instrument is—“seafoam” has a lot of variants (as does Fiesta Red, Lake Placid Blue and others)...it might make it easier to make suggestions.

PS—The reason so many people suggest tortoise is the nice contrast between a pastel-esque color (Seafoam) and a dark, dynamic color/pattern (tortoiseshell) makes for a striking visual.

Way to pull the serious face, @Bryan A :)
Just relax, adjust your boxers and read my first post again. It says:
"Oh, and tortoise is out of the question."

I'd love to see a pic of the actual green we are talking about, since you can't seem to decide if it's mint or seafoam (they are not the same). In either case, I agree with the above poster who said 1-ply white.

I give you Guthrie Trapp's #1: (originally a light blue automotive color, that faded to mint green over the years)

EDIT: I found the info from the builder, Floyd: (in case anyone is interested):
Guthrie's Tele is Chrysler pale blue, remember the Darts ? It is nitrocellulose from william wolfe laquer co. and looks green by virtue of the yellowing of nitro paint and clearcoats.

Well, the white pearl did look absolutely stunning some 15 years ago, but since then it has gradually obtained a dull and yellowish colour all over (I don't smoke, so it's not nicotine)

I suppose the guitar is mint green rather than seafoam green.

You know what, I will go for a brand new bright mother of whatnot.
I did put it on for a reason back in the days....and the guitar has always been one of my favorites.

@Fiesta Red to the rescue!

Which is exactly what I have now, and want to get rid of.

Oops - wasn't trying to be "smart". I did not equate "mother of pearl" with "pearloid". To me they are different. Mother of pearl being more of a shell type of look - shinier with more different colors showing depending on the lighting. I do think cream or parchment would look nice, though.
