Well, have any of TDPRI brothers and sisters in Ga stumbled across the newest invasive species yet? Apparently the Tegu lizard grows up to 4 feet in length and has no natural enemies. Eats pretty much anything, including pets.

Perhaps we can train them to eat murder hornets!

The gators will eat those things if they come around here or the coyotes.

4 feet, that's cute. There was a guy out removing a 10' alligator from the lagoon behind my mom's house last week.

Never heard of one. Fire ants will eat all their eggs here.

I had a pet tegu , he was soooo cool he used to sleep on the windowsill next to the cat , very laid back temperment , but the female I got him was a different story less than half his size and one miserable girl

they eat eggs their favorite food , chickens Maybe , they do like fresh meat , mice ,rats , they grow long because the tail is equal sized to the body , my male was 8 lbs and that spoiled little fart got prime rib and quails eggs, mice .
these lizards are part of a family called lacertids and are the largest of the species, they have a forked tongue like a monitor lizard or a snake and are the only New world lizard to have this a paralell evolution
one attribute of this species is they will drop thier tail if you grab it and regenerate a new one. If lost the tail will squirm to confuse their attacker.

cool beasties if you ask me ,......JMHO

    Do they kill armadillos?

    Armadillos are annoying.

    Another invasive animal.

Down in Toombs and Tattnall Counties. Where "Vidalia" sweet onions come from.

So, look in your 4 pound bag of fresh, sweet onions for some baby Tegus, I suppose.

Remember, Georgia has 1,750,000 counties (mild exaggeration) and this is a long way from the Mountains and our friends in Union and Town Counties in far North Georgia ( a skip and a jump from us ).

Drove back to Memphis along the tops of Alabama and Mississippi and yes, we did see a fair number of road kill armadillos. We need a really powerfully cold and long winter, and they will die off back towards the south. But armadillos eat a tremendous number of bugs, plus invasive plants that native critters just find confusing - I hate invasive critters but the armadillo probably mitigates most of the damage it does when it shows up around me.
