At less than a third of the cost of a new one, I couldn't resist...

I've already planned out it's future in my setup
  1. Amp sim & Delay for my Pedal Steel. The Fender voicing sounds wonderful with the steel, the reverb and delay are very functional and I can even dial in a decent overdrive with the plexi portion for special usage.
  2. A simple, light backup for my Helix rig.
  3. A really simple pedal board into my amp when needed.
  4. Even though I use a Helix... I could see myself recording with this quite a bit.
Although I've read about them and seen them in stores.... I never really took notice of how small and light they actually are.

It's my grab and go pedalboard. No need to plug power in because I incorporated a rechargeable 12v battery pack that runs 40 hours between charges. The steel cabinet handles protect the plugs when they're in the jacks and prevent them from being stomped on and broken. The board is 1/4" Lexan.

Click on the pic.

Had a rehearsal last nigh and left the Helix at home to give this thing a go... it did exactly what I hoped it would. There is no way I could/would replace the Helix and all it's versatility full time, but I could easily get through a night or two with the Fly Rig if I had to. The sound was great... it's the versatility I would miss on a full gig.

This weekend I have a fill in gig... since I don't know any details about the house PA and Tech I'll put the Fly Rig in front of my amp and keep it simple for the night.

Does anyone know the difference between v1 and v2? v2 seems to have more features, but it's hard to figure out just what if truly different vs just repackaged.

The Flyrig 5 is always in my gigbag as a backup. Because I also own the MK1 version I always carry a Fender Mini DI box and power supply in case I have to use an XLR cable. The other thing I did was take some glow in the dark tape and a black sharpie and replaced all the labelling. The white writing against the silver case is almost impossible to see on a dark stage.

Tonally they are very similar, but the new "v2" version of the Fly Rig 5 has quite a few new features/options ...
  • Tuner
  • Loop
  • XLR Output
  • Choice between PLEXI and CALI overdrive.... v1 was only Plexi
  • Delay now includes a 1/4 note or dotted 8th subdivision... v1 was only 1/4 note
  • Reverb is now on a footswitch, and has the option between large or small rooms
  • It is now 9v instead of 12v....

I have the RK5 Version 1 that I use with my Mojotone Studio One head. Sounds good but can be a little noisy.

I've had the RK5 for several years. I too like it, but man it sure is noisy. Pretty much too noisy for me. At this point it will only be used for a situation that calls for it. At one point, it was my main distortion pedal on my board.
