During the Classic albums episode of Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours", when talking about the song "Songbird", Lindsey Buckingham and Mick Fleetwood admitted they'd be bawling their eyes out each time Christine would perform the song on tour. And when they'd look out in the audience, they'd see everybody crying too.
So when the band did their mid-nineties reunion tour, the talk was to bring that song back and Christine going "Oh god, no, I don't want to cry on stage again."
So let's post those songs which bring on the waterworks. And I'll start with ABBA.
It's funny though, when I hear other versions of this song, it just doesn't have the impact, Agnetha's voice, singing about her own daughter Linda, it's just as authentic as it gets.
I always said that for me, "Life on Mars?" was David Bowie's best ever song. This version, played a Bowie tribute show just after he died, with many of his best known backing musicians playing, hits a raw nerve. And as soon as Adrian does that acoustic intro, my dams burst open.
