Talk me outta a Gold Foil Telecatser

Everyone got rid of their Harmony’s and Teiscos as soon as they could afford something better. You’d never catch me playing that crap…..

Don't do it. The trend is just about shiny foil. No one even knows if they're trying to be dearmonds or teiscos anymore. Fender trying to climb on means that shark has been jumped.

I've got a couple of old Harmony Bobkats loaded with the Dearmond Goldentones. One is in pretty rough shape, and I've often thought about transferring those pickups to a Tele... but if I did, I'd want them slanted, just like on the Bobkat.

I mean for $1200? Seems like a pretty good value to me. And interesting specs. Very attractive guitar IMO. But it’ll be a heavy son of a gun with that mahogany body if that matters to you

I personally like those Gold Foil Telecasters, but I am a sucker for anything that is a Telecaster hybrid of an idea. I love the Telesonic guitars as well. As far as gold foil pickups from Harmony's etc., both Ry Cooder and David Lindley swear by them so there must be some value there. If I was going to pull the trigger on a Gold Foil set, I want to make sure they are the real thing or a well thought out copy of one. I am surprised that TV Jones hasn't come out with something similar. That would really get my attention. Even if it wasn't my thing, I am glad that Fender is trying to think outside the box and create something a little different.

By the way, those guitars could be so easily built for such less money. You just need the right specs, and you could build your own version.

I voted "No" only because of the nature of the pickups in this model. If I wanted gold foils I'd put real ones in a model that has base specs more to my liking. Never been a fan of matching headstocks and whatnot. The ebony board is a nice touch though.

If this one speaks to you then by all means, go for it and enjoy it and I will congratulate you on your NGD post.

Gitold is spot on here. With all considerable respect to Fender and Lollar, "Gold Foil" is just a description of part of the cover; it tells us nothing about the actual pickup. And those who played those cheesy import guitars in the 1960s with gold foil pickups either (a) got a Fender/Gibson/Gretsch/Rickenbacker as soon as they could afford one, or (b) quit playing guitar.

Yes! The Harmony Juno is a fantastic little guitar. So much fun to play.

I wouldn't pay for a new Telecaster based on some pickups that I had no idea how they'd sound once I had the guitar.
For that money I could get an American Original neck and some amazing bits... Hmm.
