There is a hierarchy to the quote, gold foil“ old, pick ups, that everyone goes crazy for.

And the main thing is that the silver foil Dearmonds are better than any of the other ones.

$1100? $1200?

Go find an original harmony bobkat or Silvertone Silhouette. They are Same guitar. Waaaaaaay cheaper than $1200.

Who knows what Fender is putting in those telecasters and waving them in front of your nose to get you to respond.

Search around on YouTube under 501chorusecho - Tom Bukovac Does a demo of his silver tone Jupiter with the silver foil DeArmonds and he and I believe they’re in the top 10 of any pick up ever made.

Unless you’re just responding to how it looks in which case - crazy go nuts !

On their website Lollar describes the single coil Gold Foil Pickups as having an increased upper end complexity. Listen to guitarist Eli West's solo, especially the way notes rub up against each other. Yeah, there's a little vibrato but chime too in spades. I like it.

And Ry uses Gold Foils in the bridge position on his Coodercasters.

The Fender guitars don't have *Lollar* gold foils on them, right?

The pickups are just an asthetic here, but the board, body material, and painted headstock are the key features. Most cheap gold foils aren't anything but mesh over a pickup with nothing to do with gold foils. I feel like fender would make a bigger deal over composition and design of the pickups if they were similar to old gold foils, instead of just calling them that.

I don't need another regular scale tele, especially without a Bigsby or exceeding $1k

But if it speaks to you, go for it. They don't put out anything even slightly unusual all that often..

Don't do it. Those aren't real gold foils and the demos I saw of it...well, it sounded awful.

Scratch the gold foil itch with a Harmony Silhouette. They're not true to vintage gold foils either, but they sound more like them than the Fenders.

You could also order a loaded pickguard from Victory pickups. They make legit single coil gold foil style pickups. Pretty low risk venture doing this. If you put it in a Tele and don't like, just take it out and resell it.
