Got some clear red cedar 1x8, sliced and dimensioned another top- much more pale in color, nice and knot free.. pretty awesome find, really. 20190614_154638.jpg

The thread title made me expect stills from the remake of 'The Postman Always Rings Twice.'

Seriously, though - I applaud your craftsmanship and patience. Looking forward to seeing (and maybe hearing?) the finished thing.

20190616_065651.jpg A few of my concurrent builds.. all the tops and backs are finally joined, some roughed out, some still need work- obviously...
Taking today off, Happy Father's Day!

Great work Rich!!!! Reference to your "reverse kerfing", I have for some time been building electric bodies with reverse full height kerfing, mainly for weight reduction but they are so strong and rigid that they are my preferred method these days plus the added bonus of looking a lot neater and like a solid side section when you peek inside.

I make the kerfing on the bandsaw using my home-made jig which is very accurate and fast. You have inspired me to build an acoustic when I get back to OZ, so I may just steal your body shape as it also suits another innovation I have had in mind for several years.

Good to see the master back mate!

20190618_051835.jpg Slicing and dicing some old, weathered redwood into useful pieces..

Quartersawn redwood is nice and stiff, very stable, lightweight.

I hope I prepared enough to cut into bracing and tone bars for the 3 acoustics... this is rough stock, will take some work to get it where it needs to be..

Is this body shape original? Or a nod to a classic design? Does it have a name?

It's a pretty traditional shape for a Cretan laouto. We built one for a client, of our own design, then adapted to guitar and other instruments. These are our "Dewdrop" models, which haven't really been introduced publicly. Only a handful exist.

USER_SCOPED_TEMP_DATA_MSGR_PHOTO_FOR_UPLOAD_1560950651907.jpeg Made a big pile of side braces from quartersawn redwood. Silly little details take time, but they should help the longevity of the instruments..
