Take it easy, now . Lets listen to the beats and the vocal timing, o.k.

N.W.A. certainly did have attitude, and Besides that there was a musicality that I found irresistible.
The use of the Roland 808 drum machine and the phrasing of the vocals, at times scorched the world of popular music.
Having said that , let's give it and ear. ( no I'm not advocating nihilism.)

Well, I feel like I don’t have a lot of life experience overlap with those guys so their lyrics are not relateable for me. But they did crank out some grooves, I can appreciate that part of it. It would be fun to play some bass over some of the instrumental grooves they came up with, that’s something.

I heard this the other day:

and what struck me about it was how the rhythm was all bunched up and weird (to my rural midwestern ear, anyway) but as the song moves along it gradually evens out. I thought that was an interesting parameter to be playing with.

I also thought Nas called up some interesting images with his lyrics, and came off to me sounding relaxed in delivery despite some pretty rapid-fire wordplay in places.

Then at about 2:45 Lauryn Hill comes in with an equally relaxed delivery and this super-precise diction and enunciation. And various jazzy noises pop up here and there in the background...some sax, some Rhodes (???)

All in all, I had fun listening to that even though I’m pretty un-knowledgeable about that genre.
