After my Taco Bell experience on Tuesday and yesterday's confinement to the porcelain parlour, I felt my insides deserved a decent meal.
Today's trip was Glasgow to pick up my new glasses at the University Optometry department where weirdly wired eyes like mine get tested.

I decided to hit the west end of the city en route home, Byres Road for those of you who know the city.
Conveniently my favourite chip shop in the city is there "Old Salty's", my favourite restaurant is also there "The Ubiquitous Chip" (ironically doesn't serve chips) however, the Mrs would kill me if I ate there without her and despite her being in Paris with my daughter and grandkids, I'd be guaranteed to get caught. Women have a wily way of finding these things out.

A sitty in 'fish (haddock) supper' away from the throng of people, technically a 'fish tea' because it was served on a plate.

A bit too generous on the greenery for a good challenge on the arteries but Glasgow is trying its best to shake off the sick man of Europe reputation.
Unfortunately, I remembered I had to get home by 6pm at the latest to catch the pharmacy and only remembered this at 5pm, so no follow up with ice cream and a mad dash through the rush hour traffic for 30 miles.

The new specs were long overdue, and my son insisted on sending photos of them to Mrs K for her approval.
Here's the specs (I might be turning into Blowtorch with the selfie count these days)...

2 pairs of varifocals with Irlen tints for the visual stress, now I can see properly...and I missed the pharmacy by 7 minutes, so sleep may be elusive tonight.

Apologies for the self-indulgent post but my son has gone out to meet a young lady and I'm in on my Jack Jones.
I had to tell someone and no doubt I'll get some grief later from the Mrs about my choice in spectacles.
This is the calm before the storm.

West of the mountains...
Deep fried quality > packaged "healthy"

I missed the Taco Bell post, but it's not difficult to imagine the cause of your discomfort...

That fish'n chips looks delicious!

What I miss most about my times in the UK. We have a few pubs in Houston that serve fish and chips but not the same. In my belief, next to lamb chops, it was my favorite meal.

Did you seriously not go to eat somewhere because your wife was out of country and may find out? lol

Soooooo..... Were the fish and chips good?

Also, is that tartar sauce?

I find most places I've tried in the US just can't get fish n chips right. A lot of times the fish comes out overly greasy and slimy with the breading sliding off of it. Just not good. It's more miss than hit when I take a chance on fish n chips here.

It helps (a little) that I've lowered my expectations.

We have a pact because it's our favourite place.
We don't go unless it's together.
That said, she's been eating out in Denver, Boston and Paris this year and I never leave the country (mainly health reasons).
So, I might have to break the 30-year pact this summer.

The Fish and Chips are very good where I ate, I've tried many places all over Scotland and Old Salty's is in my top 5.

I smiled at the salad :D

We don't get the healthy option down south in Yorkshire but they'll offer you scraps.
You have excellent fish and chips all down the Yorkshire east coast and Scarborough does the best dressed crab anywhere.
I'm not salad averse but it's out of place on that plate.
