A rough & ready blues CD with just guitar & drums. Makes the Black Keys
& the White Stripes sound like kids playing with their tinker toys!

My dad used to go down to Clarksdale a couple times a year and would always spend a night hanging out with T-Model Ford. He was in the same bar pretty much every night, and he'd hold court as long as you were buying. Even being old and in poor health, dad said he was a wild man.

No link. I found one of his CD's in a clearance bin.
    Not bad for .50 cents.

'Pee-Wee Get My Gun' is one of my all time favorite albums. Best line: "I went to jail... for kickin a man's a*s.
Police wouldn't let me by... I wanted to try him."

T-Model Ford KILLS me; I was convinced I had to learn to use my fingers instead of a pick after first hearing him.

Best thing about him for me is he played a beat up Peavey Razer, which seems almost completely incongruous with the blues, and yet was dead-on perfect. If you can find 'You Hear Me Laughin' (the blues documentary- it's on Youtube in its entirety), he's all up in it.

At one point I was turned off of the blues because most people that I heard that claim the blues are playing fairly expensive instruments, with technical precision, and just.. I dunno-- not a whole heck of a lot of feeling. It almost seemed like blues was turning into this technical, sorta disconnected thing. It was so.. refined that I didn't really feel like it spoke to me at all.

Then I saw RL Burnside, and later Seasick Steve, and then finally re-discovered Hound Dog Taylor and I was hooked up again.

T-Model Ford is genuine. He's the for-real real blues.

Totally agree. If I ever hear another leaden guitar hero boogie I'll puke on my shoes. If I'm even wearing shoes ...

Add Junior Kimbrough to that list.

Not sure I'd invite those guys over to dinner with my mum, but they're perfect for a boozy late night party for one.
