OK, my brain no work today. I want to use a small combo as a speaker cab. Is there a simple way to install a 1/4” jack in a combo (on the back) so that when I plug in a speaker cable from the head, it disconnects the speaker from the amp in the combo? Shirley, there must be…

Not in the amp chassis right? On a plate etc?
I think maybe this? This uses the internal speaker with the combo amp until you plug into the jack with your head output:
Turn the combo amp OFF!

Dan this may help you it is the wiring for a marshall1922 cab, 2X12 allowing you to use each driver individually , you could modify the design to fit your needs , it does require a special switch craft switch but rather than the hard wiring it would work for your purposes , option 2 would be to install a switchcraft cut off jack , so that when you plug into the back of the cab it cuts off the + circuit to speaker and reroutes the circuit from the new jack to the speaker , just a thought

the jack on the right is the one you will need

Note: this can be a liability because when you have a different amp plugged into the combo speaker, there's no load on the *combo* amp. You don't want to switch that one on unless you first pull the plug from the jack.

Here's the way to do it.

Yes, just mounted on the back so that I can connect a head without disconnecting the speaker each time. And yes, I will have to turn the amp off to do so. I expect I will only rarely use the amp, I just don’t want to rip it out of the cab when it can serve as an emergency spare amp.

That is the kind of jack I was thinking of, thanks for the pic of connections.
