“The Immortal Charlie Christian” recorded live at Minton’s on wax disk (with Dizzy Gillespie and Thelonious Monk) is one of my favourite jazz CDs. I love the fact that you can hear people moving around, clinking glasses, talking, and reacting to the music. Closest I’ll ever come to being there, and I wouldn’t trade it for all the high fidelity in the world.
You can hear him working towards the long eighth note lines, with some alterations in the harmony.
