I didn't find the Swamp Thang to sound muffled at all. I've not tried the Cannabis Rex, so I can't compare the two speakers.

Weird... they both sound a lot like my laptop's speakers.

Seriously, they are as close as any two on that list to my ear, but the C Rex sounds like it has a bit tighter/warmer low end. Not a big difference to the highs, though the Swamp Thang may be a bit sharper at the top. Less difference with distortion, but the "heavy" clip made the Swamp Thang sound a lot less defined than the C Rex.

All in all, it reminds me how much I like the C Rex I already have!:D

I like the way they set up that website. Wouldn't be a bad idea for other vendors as well.

I have a Cannabis Rex and a Private Jack in my 2 x 12 (a pair of different speakers in the same cabinet like Divided By Thirteen and other boutique makers use). Off axis one way or the other you can hear quite a difference. I expected the Cannabis Rex to be a stiffer speaker with what you would think was a tougher material than regular paper; yet it's much brighter and capable of more sizzle than the British style Private Jack. The Private Jack is mellower, meatier.

I do like the sound clip thing, but it's really tough to judge speakers listening through headphones.

Sorry to be that guy, but I really like the Texas Heat. It is my fav.

With the two you mentioned, I tend towards the Swamp Thang.

Your not really "that guy", the Texas Heat seems to be one of those "if I could have only one speaker it would be that" speakers, at least if you are into the "American" sound.

I keep 4 speakers around to demo my amps to customers and artists, Texas Heat is one of them. The general favorite seems to be to mix Cannabis Rex and Red Fang.

I have been listening to the sound clips allot lately to find the right speakers for me, and I thought that the British Tonker speaker was somewhat close to the Swamp Thing and Cannabis Rex myself, although British flavored. Does anyone else come to a simular conclusion, or are my computer speakers just so generic that it all sounds the same?!

It's ALIVE.. Ok so Zombie thread alert....

    PV Classic 30.

I see many votes for the c-rex around this site. Anyone tried both in their C30 and gone with the Swamp thang?

I used to have an Allen Old Flame, that I played through an Avatar 2x12 loaded with two Swamp Things. Big, loud, and clean. Great for humbuckers, or great for playing with pedals. I swapped out one for a Tonker - which is very similar but has a little bit more mid range honk.

The CR is not nearly so 'big' sounding, and is a bit more rounded at the top and the bottom - it does color your sound more than a ST.

Given the inherent sound of a C30 a Swamp Thing would not be my first (or second, or third) choice. The CR, being more warm and mid-forward might be a better match.
