OK, Telecaster Friends --

I need your help. For starters, I'm not a guitar player, but I am a visual artist.

A buddy of mine has been urging me to paint on a guitar body and then sell it... somewhere. (Probably Reverb.)

So, I bought a G&L ASAT Classic body, and then worked up three rough layouts for my future oil painting. Let's call them "Honoring Leo Fender", "Clops", and "Smooth Ride".

You would do me a great favor to look at the three images below, and then tell me which one YOU would like to play.

Let me know. Many thanks.

Steve

I'm trying to be constructive here.

It just seems really arbitrary, and the layouts awkward. I'm not understanding the point of having the faces large, obscured by hardware, and yet still having awkward blank space between the edge of the guitar and the bottom of the image. I'm not understanding filling up the rest of the guitar body with those random smudges.

And most importantly, what is the point of making a painting if it is just based on a random photo from the web? I don't think these design concepts are well suited for painting.

Why not create something that benefits from the medium you are using? If you want to slap a photo on a guitar, there are better and easier ways to do it.

If you want to paint a guitar with an image, why not actually create something unique?

What I would like to play isn't important here.

The real issue is why you thinks it's OK to do that to a guitar and assault our senses like that.

I am a guitar player ... but absolutely no artist.

I'm with a few others here and I would definitely not be remotely interested in any of them - as for "Smooth Ride" - despite it's current appeal on your poll percentage wise - that does not at all catch today's zeitgeist. (Durtdog ;))

fwiw, the only remotely likeable painted guitars I have seen have all had pretty abstract images ... eg take a look at John Matos, famed for the Crash guitars.
Also, simscustomshop has some interesting stuff.

Suggestion, to garner ideas as to the sort of images that can appeal to guitarists .... start up a new thread headed:
"Show me your design painted guitars" or similar?? ... and I'll be amazed if you don't get some images of what folk here already own / already consider (dare I say) palatable .
