Howdy,
I recently purchased a new Supro Black Magick 1695th head and I've encountered a couple problems with the amp. #1.) No matter how high I turn the volume pots for either/both channels, the amp will not break up, even when running both channels in parallel. #2.) The tone pot seems to be damaged. If the tone knob is gently pressed either left or right the volume will jump, the signal will crackle, or the signal will cut out entirely. My best guess is that the damaged tone pot is pulling wattage out of one/both preamps. Any ideas what else this could be? Thanks in advance

Unfortunately, I bought it through a third party, so the warranty is void. I've contacted supro for information regarding the pot. Waiting on a response from them.

I owned a Black Magick (non-reverb) for a few years and loved it. I primarily used the jumped channel. It would definitely start breaking up when getting loud.

I primarily used an OD pedal in front of my amp and it sounded good at any volume.

My experience with Supro Customer Service was excellent. Sill, I believe that your amp is in need of a good technician.

I mainly use a GFS lipstick single coil (9.5kohms) in my Silvertone 1449 and I also tried an old lawsuit era humbucker in a cheap 80s Kramer copy (12kohms). I got virtually no break up from the amp with either. Regardless of what the volume(s) or tone was set at.

Either the pot itself is damaged, or it got smacked and the solder joints holding it to the board are cracked. Either way, should be a simple fix, and that may also resolve the volume problem with the amp.

That amp is their gain monster. None of the pots should be sketchy unless there’s a problem. Sounds like a trip to the amp tech (unless you’re handy around PCBs).

That's about what I thought. I've contacted supro support and they're willing to sell me the pot for $5 plus shipping. I'm going to try to just replacing the tone pot, and see if that makes a difference. If not I'll take it to a tech.
