Thoughts? For $299, maybe the second coming of the Fender Greta... but with an 8" speaker.

    • 1-watt 1×8” tube combo
    • Footswitchable boost
    • 1/4″ line out
    • Class-A tube power amp
    • Custom Supro BK8 speaker
    • 1x 12AX7 preamp tube
    • 1x 12AU7 power tube
    • Footswitch and Cable also available

I really wanted to like the blues king 12, but just couldn’t get it to do what I wanted. I especially didn’t like the amount of bass.
I rented one for the weekend over the summer that was pretty new, so it is possible the speaker was too new.

I want to check out this 8” version.

I believe there will be a 10” 5 watt version as well.

Looks like a nice amp for $299. I am not keen on the 8” speaker unless it’s a vintage Fender Champ. Even then, I want a least a 10” speaker in my amps. The 8” speaker would be the deal breaker for me.

Still, l love the concept and Supro makes great sounding amps.

What would you say separates it from the Monoprice 5w other than brand name mojo?

Looks like a fun little amp. I have the 1x12. Its bassy and mid heavy, but has definitely mellowed as its breaking in. Tone is tweed-like and with an EQ in fx loop I can get excellent blackface tones

I can't deny his enthusiasm playing. You have to respect that.

Man, that thing has a nice chunky distortion sound. I'll bet it's fun to play. $299 seems a bit steep, to me, though. Bet you'll be able to find one used in a year or so for $200 or a little less. I could be wrong, though!

I actually thought it sounded pretty good using both single coils and humbuckers. I think it sounds better than my Vox AC4TV. Looking forward to testing one out!

It seems to have a pretty limited tonal palette. I have better ways to spend $300.

Sounds like a Marshall. You know they can only get that sound with 100 lb. transformers, right?

On most videos I heard that the low end is amazingly soft and muddy when distorted. Not weak, you can hear it perfectly but it's soft, without any grit. Otherwise the mid and trebble side has a very nice grit and tone, and I could be intersted by this kind of amp. But it feels weird to me, am I the only one?. I heard the same thing on the Blues King 12 so I guess it's not only the fault of the little speaker.

1 watt? For way less than $299 you could buy a used Vox Pathfinder. I have never heard this Supro, but find it hard to believe it would sound better.

    This.

On the video it sounds pleasing to my ear, if a bit of a one sound only type deal (I take that back, see edits below). I love that "on the verge of exploding" sound that Supro's seem to have, so IMHO it's a good one sound to have.

I know that in real life, no matter what the amp, if it's got an 8" speaker it usually sounds very boxy to my ear. I've tried many small tube and hybrid practice amps with 8" speakers, and none have been worth buying for me. YMMV.

A 10" speaker in the same amp would probably sound less boxy, but it seems whenever they use a 10" speaker, they always seem to bump up the watts too.

I know it has to do with properly driving the speaker, but I have a 10" speaker in my Origin20, and it still sounds reasonable in 0.5 watt mode. As good as in 20 watt mode? No. But better with a 10" speaker in 0.5 watt mode, than many of the 8" speaker amps I've tried regardless of their wattage.

    Edit to add:

    Mike Hermans' demo is up.

Sounds pretty damn good actually. I take back what I said about one sound only. Not getting my hopes up, but I might try one of these out once they arrive at the local shop. But, unfortunately, these are going to be in the neighbourhood of $500 CAD, which makes it a no go for me.
