    Noob guitar tech here,

I just picked up a 1986-87 MIJ Telecaster from a guy off marketplace. I am doing some work on it and come across something odd.

Am i going crazy, or are there TWO PICKUPS wired in here? I attached images below.

Let me know because I can't find anything on this.

looks like a stacked bridge pu like this one where the rods don't go through the whole pu top to bottom, just two coils glued together, I guess.

if the pu reads ok on each coil it might sound ok. the magnets /glue will stick it back together.

Welcome man! Wow... that is strange. Do the both actually fit in the hole? Wondering if someone had some way to play one pup, and swap out for the other when they wanted to? Also, that thinner pup looks like some sort of alnico strat pup, but I could be wrong...

Ahh.... I think you're onto something here. But, only thing I can't fig out is the "strat" lookin' pup has raised and alternating poles.. how would that fit flush with the bottom of the bridge pup I wonder?

Wow I never knew people stacked pups. What glue would you recommend? Also, there seems to be a hole through the center of both pickups. I'm assuming maybe a glued rod would go in there?

The Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates for an Esquire is a stacked pickup.

Stacking is a way to get a humbucker in a single coil space.
