I bought a second Fender SCXD to bring to the summer cottage. Yeah a second one ... I just love this little gem of an amp. The one I already have in the studio is being played through either a 2X10" or a 2X12" cab. Since the cottage is small, I don't want to have to deal with an external cab there.

So, I had this big enough pine shelf to build a new cab, to house the chassis and a 12" speaker. I made it 2" deeper than the original, to give me more oomph.

Here is the whole thing assembled.

I made a semi closed back with a piece from an old painting, all with signature at right bottom corner

I thought of painting it white, to match the cottage interior. But since the construction didn't come out too bad, I decided I would oil the wood instead. It'll match the floors o_O

Metal tape in upper part, like the original cab.

Tung oil was used. That smells good !

I had a Celestion G12T-100 lying around, so I tested it with that. Not the best match. I then found a Blues Jr III Fender 12" for cheap, that should match the OEM 10" in terms of tone fidelity.

Waiting for it now to finish the project.

Nice. The black face and natural wood look great for a domestic setting.

Happy camper in its new home. The Epiphone will stay too. No more gear packing.

Nice work. How did you join the top and bottom of the cabinet to the sides?

I'd recommend using an open back cab, so the amp gets some ventilation. Closed back may not be a problem if you're not playing long or loud, but tubes will last longer with some ventilation.

I too, bought a second Super Champ, but this time its an X2 in a Newell cabinet with a 12" speaker. Great little practice amps, and cheap enough to own 2!
