A Super Champ XD came up near me for 200 as did an X2, is there any inherent benefit between choosing one over the other? I know one is newer, but other than age and resale, any reason to buy one over the other?

The X2 has a USB interface that allows the use of Fuse software to modify some settings. Most important is the 'virtual' midrange control, as many of the default voices have excessive midrange. Yes, Fuse is downloadable and usable. The face that Fender no longer supports is is immaterial. The USB interface can also be used as a low-level output for recording, but I haven't tested that.

Most voices are basically the same between the XD and X2. Some have slight differences, but the X2s flexibility with Fuse allows it to replicate the XD versions of the voices.

Otherwise, the two amps are identical.

Unfortunately, those guitarspace and playthetunes XD vs. X2 articles have a lot of inaccuracies and uninformed nonsense in them. That's a shame, as a good, accurate article would be valuable.

I’m having a heckuva time finding any kind of software to control my bender super champ X2. I got an android and was going to download Remuda SC and someone said that it doesn’t work with the new Androids! I am an Apple/Mac person, But I can’t find software for a Mac anywhere. If anyone knows how I can get software for a Mac or for an android to control the SCX2 please let me know. Thank you.

Someone said? Look at the Remuda site and see if it says what Android versions it works with. In any case, there's no harm in installing it to see if it works. If it doesn't work with your phone or Android version, you can always buy a cheap, older Android phone and install Remuda on that. The non-fone features function fine (alliteration alert!) without needing to add the phone to your wireless phone account.

Ain't no Mac version of Fuse. I don't remember if it can run on a Windows VM running on a Mac. If it can, it will need Microsoft Silverlight graphics software running on the VM, too. That's deprecated and no longer supported, but can be found on the Microsoft download site.

BTW, welcome to TDPRI! The beer's in the fridge over there. If you take the last one... well, you know what's expected.

Thank you for your reply. Sorry I didn’t explain. One of the reviews for the Remunda SC download on Amazon said that it did not work with newer versions of the android. I tried to download it on the android and it said is not supported by the newer version of android. The guy that had the review said that he bought an android and wasted his money on the software and then found out that it didn’t work with his new android.. by the way thanks for the beer! Lol

I had an XD for years - recently sold it to a friend who needed an amp - and a guy in my band has an X2. To my ears, they sound very similar. Nice amps, though. I rarely used the modeling or whatever and just ran it through the first channel. It was like a poor man's Princeton. (Still poor, but I have an SF Princeton that I gig regularly and, well, it's a Princeton.)

For the same price, it's a no-brainer to choose the X2. Some people may not hear the difference, but four years of advancement in tone modeling software is significant.

The X2 is my favorite amp. It sounds terrific and is as easy to control with the on-board knobs as any old-school amp. Connect it to your computer and the sky's the limit.

One caution - as much as I love my X2, I have to admit that I'm on my second one. The first one experienced two failures. First, the USB port broke off the circuit board so I couldn't connect it to the computer. The attachment is flimsy; be extra careful when inserting and removing the plug. I already had the amp programed the way I wanted, so that wasn't a big problem. Second, the channel 2 volume knob stopped working. The knob and shaft spun around uselessly while the volume seemed to be fixed at what I judge to be around 7.

At what these sell for used, I decided to just buy another one and keep the first for spare parts rather than getting it repaired.

Channel 1 is modeled. I think of it as Voice 0. The DSP stage models the preamp, speaker, and cabinet of a black panel Princeton. After that, the driver, phase inverter, and output stages are 100% tube Princeton circuit.

I have the Fuse set-up file saved in my Downloads folder. I don't know how to post it here.

I have a used X2 that I bought for $200. Speaker replaced by a Celestion Greenback (great sound, especially when the amp is pushed).
At first, I thought that connecting the amp via USB to a PC with Fender Fuse was a gimmick.
But then...
Of the 16 sounds, only 2 interest me: the “65 Princeton compressed” (#6), and the “70s British” (#11).
As I didn't find them compressed enough, with “Fuse” I reproduced them on the following channels, adding more compression each time.
Example:
#6 = 65 Princeton compressed
#7 = 65 Princeton more compressed
#8 = 65 Princeton even more compressed
and so on.
Like this, when I play live, I can easily adapt the compression, without a pedal!
With an XD, there's no way to reassign sounds to channels...
I'm so happy with the X2 that I'm seriously thinking of buying another one as a backup. Just in case...

The X2 is versatile, like that. $200 was a really good price, so you need to be patient to find that kind of deal again.
