Mine are from my acoustic builds and they are hand rubbed/blended. The only gun work involved is around the perimeter where it goes to dark opaque. First is a process shot of the back of my L-5 style. The mandolin is #5 dubbed "the Jurassic Park mandolin"

Sadly, I no longer own this beautiful 2008 Epiphone DOT 335.
( like other cool guitars I owned, but needed to sell- dang $$!!)

It was one of those GC Limited runs, with the veneer flamed maple top & gold hardware, but it was tasty!

But even with aftermarket, real '57 Classics I had installed , is was still kind of murky/ dark-toned- maybe it was the pots?
( the 2018 Epi SG I now own, gives me the tone I hoped for)

I miss a beautiful guitar, but not really its dark sound

The fiddle is German, about 30 years old, I'm the second owner. It came this way.

The archtop's shading is mostly dyed french polish. The polish is steel-wooled away, re-polished, cut back, re-polished until I like it.

My mate's bass is all off the gun.
