Many gems to be mined in the Southern Culture on the Skids catalog.

It probably goes without saying that tremolo is a key component, at least in my mind.

On the album King King the Red Devils take this same riff and sing Willie Dixon's I'm Ready.

This guy was big in Fort Worth in the 90's...SRV acknowledged him as an influence.

Check out Tony Joe White's first handful of records. He wrote the book.
    Black and White 1968
    Continued 1969
    Tony Joe 1970
    Tony Joe White 1971

Those are the ones that I have anyway. All of them are available on Itunes so you can pick and choose the songs you like. His A&R always had him pad his early albums with some ballads and a pop tune or two, some of those are ok, but it is the other stuff that is really great.

Yeah, Rick Miller has borrower liberally from TJW over the years. I am sure that you are hip to it, but Jerry Reed has a sizeable string of tunes in this vein as well.

I have those too, and I think the ballads are among the best - if not THE best - songs.
