Really surprised my favorite artist was nominated for album of the year and best country album for A Sailors Guide To Earth. He is the one that inspired Stapleton to record traveller with the same producer Dave Cobb.
The album is good, I personally like his other two more, but hey..... He is going up against Adele, Beyonce, Beiber, and Drake. Hard fight since pop music usually decides this stuff.

Hopefully he will win and not show up, screw the grammys.

I just started listening to that album a few months ago, and for one who's not a big country fan, I love it. Like, LOVE it. Good for him! If he loses to anyone in that list other than Adele, that's bullcrap.

I always hesitate to comment on successful musicians because it's easy to come across as a carping nitwit

Simpson came up sounding like Waylon with a major chip on his shoulder, and hooray for that kind of attitude when the radio's full of bro country pap -- but Simpson was pumped up from the very beginning as some sort of hard-bitten savior from country music's left -- and it's all been a bit much

here's some carping nitwittedness: IMHO, a Grammy for Simpson is premature, and yet I'm all for it -- I just hope he writes more good songs and takes the I'm Awesome chip off his shoulder

there are plenty of superb musicians working in country music today

Sturgill is a great musician. From interviews with him I've heard/read he has made it clear that isn't only into Classic/Traditional Country and he'll be making albums that feature other influences prominently. That might be a disappointment to those who are mostly just into hardcore Country, but I have to respect the choices an artist makes

This is the field:

25 - Adele
Lemonade - Beyoncé
Purpose - Justin Bieber
Views - Drake
A Sailor's Guide to Earth - Sturgill Simpson

All those albums have around 30 people involved. Sturgill's? Six.

Got my vote.

yeah he has had a marketing machine geared towards keeping him the underdog the independent, don't know if it was to his deferment or not but it makes him seem a little cooler that everyone doesn't know about him. Yeah Adele would be the only worthy contender, but I still wish he'd win.
