I found out how to fake it but how does this occur naturally?

It does on mine, and darned if I know why, since my strings and pick never touch the covers when I play.

Mine are between strings. I don’t think its my pick because I tend to play more towards the bridge.

So true.....but you are forgetting about a little thing called Elfin Magic!

The raw sexual magnetism of my playing creates a reverse flux through the strings that tarnishes the covers. It's why I only use uncovered pickups or P90s now.

It's science. Look it up.

The strings won't be in the same position in relatiton to the lighting all the time.

Its just chemistry, and in the case of relicked covers it's usually overdone.

On mine it is usually pick wear. But I suspect it is more noticeable with nickle plating. It isn't very strong.

Well the strings are metal and there’s magnets involved. Is something being leached in or out? It is curious. It’s almost always the simplest conclusion.
