Me and some other guy had discussion about what those OWT means in "Fender Strat Special MN OWT". Ok MN = maple neck. What about OTW? He thinks its "ocean white".

I thought its "Olympic White", but then what those "T" stands for?

Other people, from Fender forum said its "owt = original with tags ". What the heck?
    https://forums.fender.com/viewtopic.php?t=40904

I thought 99% its Olympic white, but then I read this :
"I have seen OWT after some various models of Fenders. Anyone know what this stands for?? "

"Plus, there are several guitars that aren't Olympic White that the lable as owt. "

    What the real truth?

    Obsessed With Trivia?

Sorry - I couldn't resist. 'W' cries out for 'With'.

And a far worse word.

Well not obsessed with trivia...I am trying to buy Strat Olympic white, its my favorite color (And Arctic or Polar white also, the next is Candy apple red).

But seller told me "Its not "Olympic white", its "Ocean white color", and that I am wrong bla bla...

So I said, what color is that - ocean white, is that some kind of white mixed with very light blue or what...

Olympic White is opaque. Many, many people are confused with OW and 501 Blond. Yes, that"s no 'E'.

This is 501 (Blond) - you could tell because it's translucent i.e. you can see grain. Blond like the pre-54 yelowish Blonde is always over ash for grain.

The guitar below is Olympic White which is solid and opaque. OW is always over alder, which has not much grain but this paint is designed to obscure it anyway.

People get confused over 51-54 blonde, blond (whitish post-54 limed finish) and 'butterscotch blonde' which is often actually Natural tinted by age or deliberately. 'Butterscotch blonde' is not a vintage colour and it didn't exist as an official colour until recently.

All these finishes yellow with age - the top guitar is a 78, the lower is a 65 I think. That confuses people as to what the original was. They both look white under the pickguard. But one has grain visible.

Guitar below is clear nitro - tinted to look old. This is what aged Natural looks like.

Fender do modern variants now, Trans sea foam green, Olympic White etc.
Trans traditional colors look odd to me. I think most of the newer variations are on Custom Shop examples.

First, please forgive my flippant original post, but I couldn't resist.

In all seriousness, why not e-mail Fender? I've found them very helpful in the past, and you'll get a definitive answer.

It means 'anything' where I come from.

As in 'You doing owt tonight?'
    'No'
    'Fancy a pint, then'.

    The negative is 'nowt'.
