I hate the quack positions on a Strat. Meanwhile, I have a Burns Brian May (which is wired in series) and I love the two-pickup positions.

I'd like to re-wire my Strat where the pickups are series, but all the diagrams I can find are to add a switch so you can switch between series and parallel. I don't want the switch.

Does anyone have a diagram for series only?

It can't be done with a regular Strat 5-way. It's easily done with a 24-lug Superswitch. I can draw it up if you're willing to replace your 5-way. Reply here or PM me.

I'm fine with buying a new switch.

    Thanks!

Pardon my amateur graphic skills. I edited this from a drawing I did years ago that involved a switch to go from parallel to series in throws #2 and #4.

This should do it for you:

    1 - bridge
2 - bridge in series with middle
    3 - middle
4 - neck in series with middle
    5 - neck

With this scheme, there's no easy way to have a tone control on the middle-only pickup selection, so it's rather like the Jimmie Vaughn Strat idea with tones on the [1 & 2] and [4 & 5] throws.

Thanks so much. One question - where do I connect the mid pickup ground?

The mid pup ground just goes to ground, typically back of the volume pot.

if i wired a spst toggle from power out hot on volume pot to neck pickup hot for the purposes of having neck and bridge together, will doing so mess up the entire series wiring scheme?

I don't think the way you have explained it will do what you want.

Tell me if you want the bridge+neck combo at the bridge end of the 5-way or at the neck end, and I'll edit a sp/st on/off into the drawing.

actually want to light up the neck at will anywhere in the five settings, two of which will be redundant. making position 1 like middle position on a tele, and position 2 capable of all three pickups on, whilst elimination the quackery of 2 and 4. i can not figure out how to do it in serial, while i do it all the time in parallel.

Thank you for your advice. I really appreciate it.

NOTE; I goofed on the tone chart, now corrected...

This is as close as I can get to what you are asking:
    upload_2021-4-22_19-42-16.png

    Throw the toggle for:

1 - bridge and neck (parallel)
2 - bridge and neck (parallel) in series with middle
3 - middle and neck parallel (stock quack tone)
4 - neck in series with middle
    5 - neck

If you eliminate the connection to the third lug (not counting the common lug) on the neck pole, you would get position 3 as middle only (instead of middle +neck)

    .

One path is to use an Armstrong Blender and a Tele 3-way switch (dropping the 2/4 positions).

    Blender at 10:
    Neck
    Middle
    Bridge

    Blender at 1:
    Neck-Middle series humbucking
    Middle
    Bridge-Middle series humbucking

The basic Armstrong Blender is a wiring only mod, uses the second tone pot to blend from one to the other extreme, so no new parts (it's cheap). In this case to skip over the quack styles you're buying a standard 3-way switch.

You could hard-wire so no blender and just use the single HSH arrangement.

The blender is useful because you can shift the style to any point between pure single or pure humbucker, like thickening up the single coil tone or bringing a humbucker back from a too-fizzy distorted humbucker tone with more single coil bite.

Thank you. I appreciate your gift for knowing how to do this. Many thanks.:)
