I'm sure this has been asked here before but I'm new so cut me some slack please ...

I don't find use for the neck pickup on my tele. On the other hand I LOVE the sound of the neck pickup on my strat. What will it sound like if I put a strat pickup in the neck position of a tele?

mmm

My guess is that it will sound bassier but my guess is as good as yours.

when you dispose of your tele neck pickup, you could always ship it down here... :)

I have one in my partscaster. It sounds very different from the tele neck. give a try, you might like it.

if you are carefull (and have a routed neck pickup pocket) you can trim the top lip of a strat pickup to fit a standard tele guard..

Ive had one for years and find it very useful

Various suppliers..Allparts, WD, etc can provide a pickguard with a strat cut out at the neck position..

I did not care for the strat pup in my #1 Tele and instead prefer a humbucker in that tele. It seems to work in my Peavey Omniac though. Have fun, Wayne

Been done many times, try it out. If you prefer the strat neck sound it will get you very close on a tele.

Rob, where did you get that pickguard? Is that cut for a strat pickup? Or liked you said it will fit with out the cover?

Rob, where did you get that pickguard? Is that cut for a strat pickup? Or liked you said it will fit with out the cover?

that started out as a standard single ply 'vintage' 5 hole parchment tele pickguard. i used a strat pickup template to rout the pup hole from tele to strat. my tiger strat pickups are slightly oversized due to the cotton cord winding and won't fit into a standard tele pickguard (though strat pups without covers will fit into a standard tele pickguard neck position).

here's a tiny taste of how that tiger pup (in the above guitar) sounds ...

Wow, sweet looking tele, Rob! I like the color scheme...

I'm waiting on a neck to show up, but I'll be putting a Fat 50's neck pickup into my latest tele(-ish) project. I'll report in on this thread once it's up and running.

'97 California Series Tele came stock with a Tex Mex Strat pup. I personally don't think it sounds a whole lot different than a Tele neck pick up. Certainly different but doesn't sound "just like a Strat" either, to me.

don't you risk the edge of the pickguard hitting the windings on an uncovered tele pickup and killing it? Depending on how often you adjust pickup height and how hard you play or bump into the neck pickup, might be an issue. But that's what they make cloth pickup tape for, right?
