This is wonderful I'm really excited to see these done.
thank you sir! I'm having a lot of fun!
few minor updates...
got my neck paddle routered down...
routed my wire channels, got my bolt neck pocket done...
mister mike... wow, man. That's going to be amazing.
I so envy your wood working skills. Are you a professional wood worker?
Just checked out the Delta Cloud... you are a killer guitar maker, dude! Great chops too.
no, I'm a professional code monkey but I try!
you are very generous and I appreciate that. my woodworking experience is meager - I worked as a cabinet maker in high school and just after, and worked as a solid surface fabricator for a few years during college. All that said: I have access to the greatest teacher(s) of all via google and sites like this. Lots of great tutorials that you can study and some very skilled craftsman here/there. If I haven't said it - I'm very thankful to tdpri/projectguitar/mylespaul members and humbly credit all praise to them.
afa playing - thank you there as well. I know my place: I'm the best there has ever been... on MY couch.
thank you again for taking the time!
so here is a bondo caul I made for my veneer process...
and glamour shot of my caul...
click here for video regarding bondo caul!
one thing of note: next time put down some wax paper and I won't end up with a scrap piece glued to my headstock!
anywho... sanded down my inlays and cropped my veneer.
rough cut my headstock overlay..
glued it down...
and trimmed it for binding...
here is a pile of parts. took me 3 buys to get a black jack with no blemishes! gotoh for the win!
had hoped to start doing my radius this weekend but remember I still had to glue on some pieces to keep the base from rocking so... that will dry by tomorrow so hopefully!
got my set neck "rough bound" last night.
started working the rosewood pickup covers...
and..... the moment I've all been waiting for: radius... a lot more physical work than I had anticipated as going from cavity to wood you really have to be careful it doesn't grab... but other than that it went pretty smooth.
Wow! That’s awesome dude. Are you gonna radius the back as well like the Lindsay Buckingham Guitar?
thanks for the reply! these two won't be radius'd on the back. they are deeply chambered so I opted for more chamber area as opposed to a radius back. my next build will be a 7 string that will be both top and back radius'd but that's a ways off for now!
thank you sir! I appreciate you takin' the time!
There's a slight madness to your builds I really love - I look at the mockup pictures and think 'is this going to work?' and then you go out and do things like radiusing the whole front side of the guitar...Really, really cool stuff, looking forward to seeing more!
hehe, thank you I think! unfortunately my graphic skills are such that some of the details only exist in my head... and now in the guitar. thank you for your response.
Wow, that looks fantastic!! Great job!
thank you for taking the time oldrebel... also your name makes me want to drink whiskey! looking fwd to breaking out my tops sometime next week so... much to do but getting there!
I love these kinds of threads... especially the bits where a special jig is made to achieve a purpose. I thought your 'top-carve' jig was genius. Thanks for the detail in the thread - fascinating!
I appreciate that, you are too kind. really just standing on the shoulders of giants. credit where due - I believe there is a 'marty' around here who I first saw the idea for radiusing a fretboard online and some guys who I bounced ideas off of at projectguitar helped me fine tune it in my mind - all deserve more credit than me. just took their excellent ideas and bent them to my will.
I'm loving the progress on these! keep the photos coming
thank you for the reply. I have to radius my second body and will chip away at that this week. lot of work left to do and it's probably going to get boring as I spend some time working on a jig to do binding on a uneven surface but I will def do an update about once a week so please stay tuned and encourage me!
thank you sir macrogats!
