RIP Joe. I just found this performance on the Tube and it made me miss him. Hope you enjoy it...
Brilliant isn't it. Not long since I found it myself. Was looking for recordings of Joe with Latino Rockabilly War - I saw them once, in Southampton and it was an incredible evening.
I love Joe Strummer and everything he was a part of. Straight to Hell became such a phenomenon that it went on the be sampled for Paper Planes by MIA, and that tune was covered by Tom Morello’s Street Sweeper Social Club.
Straight to Hell was also covered and very limited in distribution by Lily Allen, Strummer’s god-daughter.
thanks for sharing. Joe was the reason i wanted a Telecaster!! Combat Rock has some hidden gems for sure

Argh! Sorry guys! Oh well, it's brilliant and deserves another thread IMO.
I agree. Thanks for sharing.
Joe's part of the reason I picked up a Tele too.
I've just finished reading 'We Are The Clash' - a very sad end to a great band.
I was listening to 'Streetcore' last Saturday & I was almost in tears.
The reason I bought a black Tele was Joe Strummer. RIP mate!
I'll never complain about posting any Strummer/Clash/Mescaleros vids repetitively.
Throw out Casbah & Should I Stay and Combat is a pretty damn enjoyable album. It was good to me as a young high schooler.
Interesting trivia: the “sample” from Straight To Hell used in Paper Planes is not actually a sample. It was re-recorded specifically for that track, primarily because the guitars and rhythm section on the original supposedly lacked the sort of punch that the producer wanted for the MIA arrangement. Pretty good reproduction - you’d never guess...
