There's a billion or so but this is one of my favorites. Written by Bruce Springsteen, sung by Johnny Cash.

Without spoiling anything, the song is about Joe Roberts, a Highway Patrolman and his brother. It's what you do. Listen to the song and that last sentence will make some sense.

Two of my faves to perform are:

" Glendale Train" (Old West/ train robbery song)
from the New Riders of the Purple Sage ( don't know if they wrote it)

and " Jack-a-Roe
( trad. war/romantic tune) as done by The Grateful Dead.

Both have good narratives and melodies you can latch onto, even if you've never heard before
