Storing an unfinished neck?

Just got myself an unfinished neck for a project I'm not in a big hurry to start. Is keep it in a box in the closet okay and should I consider anything else?

Put a coat of TruOil on it.

As with most unfinished and kiln dried wood. Consistent temperature and humidity control will be your best bet.

Also I would probably store it in a vertical position.

Without a finish the wood is going to exchange humidity with the air much faster so fret-sprout is going to be more of a risk than warping. I would put a guitar-case humidifier in the box and check it regularly.

Shouldn't the OP also make sure that there is no tension on the truss rod?
