Still have any doubts that Christopher Cross can really play?

Chris can definitely play!
I first heard of him, as Chris Geppert (his name-Duh!)
He sang on The Electromagnets debut album.
That was Eric Johnson’s fusion band, circa 1975.
I first saw Christopher Cross when they were a bar cover band playing Steamboat Springs in Austin, circa 1975-76.
They covered Beatles, Stones, and Beach Boys stuff very admirably.
Very, very admirably, actually.
The nailed the harmony parts and arrangements.
The median age of the band members was about 25 then.

He's a fabulous guitar player, overshadowed by his pop-rock hits and associated public persona.

Boz Scaggs suffered a similar fate, when you think about it.

Robie Nevil, to a lesser degree.

Fame.
Radio hits.

Both are double-edged swords when you think about it.
