In my order was a roll of what looks like copper tape, I would assume it’s used for shielding or something. It isn’t listed on my invoice and there is no mention of some kind of gift or anything.

Is that normal like do they sometimes send out samples ? Is it some kind of gift for becoming a member or just some kind of mix up ?

I have been a Max member since the beginning of the year and have never received a sample. I bet they would tell you to keep it though. Their customer service is awesome too.

Stewmac is great, but they like to send you stuff in exchange for money, like 100% of the time. On the plus side, everything that I have purchased from them on occasion has been of excellent quality, including some (expensive) one of a kind tone wood.

No. StewMac has never been known to give out anything for free. Ever.

    [EDIT]

    Thumper Rules...

    I like Philadelphia Luthier Supply.

No affiliation, just glad to have an alternative... Finally.

They have never sent me something out of the blue, but they once sent me the wrong item, told me to keep it, and sent the correct replacement tout suite.

Huh , I quickly ran through the invoice and checked off everything to make sure I had it all. Everything was there including the extra tape but I will double check when I get home

Yeah everything else on my order is right , oh well finders keepers!

Everything else looks good except out of the package the feeler gauges were like dripping with oil and a few of the are showing some wear on the numbers. Maybe the oil is there to keep them from binding up or something though.

Sounds like a simple mistake in filling the order. Some poor soul is probably waiting patiently for his long awaited copper tape to arrive but he'll get over it because he received someone else's manatee bone bridge pins.

That's normal for metal tools. Just put copper tape on it...

Haha yeah the more I thought about it the more I realized they wouldn’t want the customer to receive it and have them stuck together, rusted or something like that. As you can tell I’m not really tool savy but I’m working on learning to be alittle more proactive in my setups. I need to practice the truss rod stuff on a Squier though so I’m comfortable doing it on my fenders.

Stewmac are a very good company for service actually.
In 2004 I built a Mahogany B&S , AAA Spruce top, ( sounds wonderful today), anyway they helped.
The body swelled to a 21" Dreadnought ( not 20") and so my customer photographed it with a stark yellow tape measure. They sent us sides and the End Blocks - FREE. NO USPS costs either. That would normally come to circa. $120 AUD. Very good service, no USPS charges!!. I cannot complain. I know they can be expensive but their parts and tools are of good quality- consistently.

They would tell you to keep it, but bill you $27.95 for shipping it to you.
