What are opinions on these?

(link removed)

I see how they work but - would a normal eraser do the same job? I'm thinking of those half-pencil, half-ink erasers with the abrasive end.

I know it's important to use the right tools for the job, and not always a good idea to do things on the cheap, but it's also true that you don't always need to pay top dollar for top-name tools when there's a simpler (cheaper) way that will give you the same results.

The erasers have grit in them.

Get one of these instead https://crimsonguitars.com/store/fret-rubber-fret-polishing-abrasive/
I have the fine, but I see they added superfine. I use it on every fret level.

My fret level process: sanding beam with 240, then a small block sanding papers 600, 800, by hand with 1500, and then finish polish with the eraser.

Beauty Supply places have women's nail buffing pads for a couple bucks. Different grits on the same stick.

I have the stewmac ones, and like them OK. Sometimes it is a little annoying that the get grooved up so much. I like the suggestion of nail file boards, they would keep their shape. Definitely nowhere even close to a pencil eraser.

Plumbing supply merchants here in the U.K. will sell you an item called a "bath erraser", which will be 2 or 3 times the size of the fret erraser in the picture for half the cost....

I've used both the erasers and nail buffers. Both work, but the fine nail buffers wear out fairly quickly if used on sharp fret ends. My main polisher is a hard leather disk in a dremel, loaded with polishing compound. It works well on fret ends.

Not saying these aren't worth it, but I've found a green Scotch-bride pad along with a slotted fret shield works pretty good for me.
