Seriously great musician who has made brilliant music in so many eras. R and B with Spencer Davis when he was really young, to trippy pop with early Traffic, quality rock in short-lived Blind Faith and later period Traffic, to good solo hit songs in the early 80s (despite the bad synth parts) and even in his later years quality albums like About Time.

Brilliant live too. Saw him in 1975 with Traffic and several times in the last 15 years, whenever he tours the UK. One of the great 'white soul' voices and a superb keys and guitar player. And he plays bass with his B3 pedals for good measure.

One of the best musicians to come out of the UK imho.

I'm glad we have Mr. Winwood and others, sing songs that are a part of their musical history.
I'm teaching a younger student Irish 5 string banjo folk / traditional songs. It's a learning experience for me, too.

Steve is a very special musician. I first saw him as a young teenager with Spencer Davies playing at the Twisted Wheel in Manchester, and later headlining a festival with Traffic...
Throughout his career he has always set incomparably high standards of musicianship and creativity. His unique voice is instantly recognisable, and must have been the envy of every singer who has ever heard it. His command of guitar and keyboards is legendary....

er, yes - I'm a fan, haha

Love and respect for Steve since I first heard Gimme Some Lovin' when he was 15. A force of nature. Thanks for posting.

I would love to see Mr. Winwood cover these traditional styles of songs. If anything, just so that these songs won't get lost in time.
