I think it should be noted that Stephen Stills talent and influence are legendary. Singer, songwriter, and player, all of the highest order. What a storied career as well. Another great musician from Texas.

A genius level writer/singer/player if there ever was one!
I followed his career path from 1966-1980.
He’s the reason I play a Gretsch Chet.

Been fortunate enough to see him perform live a bunch of times over the last 40 yrs. Solo, CSN&Y, CSN (15+ times) and even with Judy Collins a few months ago.

    Few better. Very, very few.

He surely doesn’t get the love he deserves. I love that smokiness in his voice. Sorta like the male Bonnie Raitt.

    Great musician, interesting guy.
Texas? Well, it's true he was born there.
But he grew up in Florida... and we claim him)

Yeah, I was gonna say something about that. He was another Gainesville area guy, part of the whole Petty / Felder / Stills / Bernie Leadon lineage...

I didn't know he was born in Texas - I've always thought of him as a Florida guy.

I was surprised to find out he was born in Texas, maybe like a lot of folks. FWIW I heard both Louisiana and Florida influences, but that and a quarter...here's what the all-knowing wiki says:

Stills was born in Dallas, Texas, the son of Talitha Quintilla (Collard) and William Arthur Stills.[8] Raised in a military family, he moved around as a child, and developed an interest in blues and folk music. He was also influenced by Latin music after spending his youth in Gainesville and Tampa, Florida; Covington, Louisiana; Costa Rica, where he graduated from Lincoln High School, Panama Canal Zone; and El Salvador. Stills also attended Admiral Farragut Academy in St. Petersburg, Florida, and Saint Leo College Preparatory School in Saint Leo, Florida.[9] Stills is also an avid sailor.

Stills dropped out of LSU in the early 1960s. He played in a series of bands, including the Continentals, which then featured future Eagles guitarist Don Felder.

So-so improvisor, but an enormously influential rhythm player. He helped pioneer that chunky, slap, thud, chop way of using the right hand. It really, really drives a band.

One of my all-time favorite guitar players and criminally under-rated.

cool voice, great guitar sounds... I thought he ripped as a soloist! I would not want to be his dentist!
