The Indonesian Standard line began in 1998.
Fender announced them for January 1999 NAMM. Production will have started in 1998, and some might have been shipped earlier, but the official announcement is still 1999.

Do these still come with ceramic pickups? If that's the case, please understand what you're getting. IMHO ceramic pickups SUCK BIG TIME. The good thing, the guitar is cheap enough for you to invest in some good pickups, reasonably priced, without breaking the bank!

I believe the ceramics got swapped for Alnico around 2001.

For me it doesn't matter, some ceramics sounds great IMHO, but I tend to favour alnico III...

There's another great thing about these '98-'99's- there's a drop-in replacement 3-saddle bridge, while not ashtray style, still feels more "tele correct" to me. I think it's made by Mighty Mite. I got two on Ebay for pennies.

My only Tele at the moment is a Squier Standard. Blue one on the left. I'm going to put in a set of Tex Mex pickups pretty soon. Right now there's just a bridge pickups and it's not the original. It sounds good but I want a matching set and I like the Tex Mex Tele pickups a lot.

Why get rid of the Squier logo?

The headstock was painted black when I got it. I know it's a Squier standard because all the other info is still on the back.

I bought a Black and Chrome Tele yesterday for 130 Euros here in Germany.
Waiting for the delivery.
I will post some pics when it arrives.

I had a blonde standard years ago and i regret that i sold it.
The blonde standard was one of the top 3 Teles i've ever had (unmodded).
The other 2 of the top 3 were a 1979 fender Tele with RW neck and a black Squire SQ Series Tele from 1983.

The blonde Standard was as good as a Fender Classic Mex '60, in fact i liked the Squire more (at half of the price).
The Pickups are great, with a vintage output.

I just checked out the Squier Standards, Affinties, Classic Vibes and Fender Player series at my local Long and McQuade and decided on a Standard Vintage Blonde. Nice guitars with some notable differences from the Affinities (hardware, skunk stripe, full size body, etc.)

The Fender Player was nice - maybe the best tele at any price I’ve picked up off the floor of a music store in a long time, but there is something special about these Squire Standards - it “spoke” to me ;)

My Squier Standard is my go-to guitar for rougher gigs and for "chucking in the car in a hurry" stuff.

I like having a Tele with a rosewood board neck too and seeing as mine cost me £85, it serves its purpose.

I think another reason why they are not so common is that maybe folk hang on to them once they have bought them. They have a bit chunkier necks than the Affinity Teles so maybe people keep them as a backup when they buy another higher end Tele.

I've done a couple of gigs over the past year where I've seen players have a Squier Std Tele as a backup guitar, like I often do.

That's a beautiful matched pair right there! Love the colours
